Allen & Trish Rael Tragedy

Donation protected
On July 30, 2018 Trish and Allen Rael were in a horrific motorcycle accident which cost Allen his life and Trish her best friend, soulmate, and the loss of her leg.

It was a beautiful Colorado day when they decided to head up to Central City to try their luck and enjoy a nice bike ride. Trish's birthday was two days prior, on the 28th, so they thought a celebration was in order. It was a trip they had taken hundreds of times and thought nothing of it. Little did they know the day would forever change their lives and those of everyone around them.

Fifteen minutes into the ride on I-70 West, witnesses say the motorcycle which was driving the speed limit, within its traffic lane, suddenly veered to the left, colliding with the guardrail. The motorcycle rode along the guardrail for a few feet until both riders were ejected. Allen, who was driving lost his life instantly when he came to his final rest on a guardrail post. Trish was thrown 30 feet into the air, over the guardrail and landed on the shoulder of East bound traffic.  Her left leg was partially amputated by the guardrail and later needed to be removed. She had numerous broken ribs, a broken arm, broken right leg, multiple back injuries, and acute brain damage. Trish was put in an induced coma for almost two weeks and stayed in the hospital for over a month, during which she had a total of 9 surgeries for her injuries. Her family stayed at her side the entire time.

Allen “Al” Rael was born on May 10th, 1950 in Pueblo, Colorado. He was part of a large family and was the 3rd oldest of 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Al joined the US Marines Corps in 1968 and was immediately sent to fight in Vietnam. No one could have prepared him for that war and he luckily survived the battle of Khe Sanh. Al returned home in 1970 and stayed enlisted in the reserves for another 3 years. He was rewarded the combat action ribbon and Vietnam service metal W-1*. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and was very proud to be a Marine.

Al and Trish depended on his retirement benefits and VA benefits for income. Trish is still recovering from her injuries and still needs surgery. Between medical bills, home mortgage and the inability to work, money has been tight. No one can plan for or should have to endure a tragedy like this.

Anything helps and is appreciated. The money raised will go towards Trish’s medical bills and their home mortgage.
