My name is Colleen and this is my service dog, Nala.
Nala and I  graduated from Bergin University of Canine Studies in July, 2017.

Nala is my second service dog from Bergin University.  She’s a very special dog,  Nala was part of Bergin University breading program. Where she was bred with a dog from Canada.  Nala had 7 healthy puppies and 14 grand puppies. Her daughter Uma is now on Bergin Puppy can  https://goo.gl/5ROC74">Explore.org with her own litter.  https://explore.org/livecams/bergin-university/bergin-university-service-dog-program
One of Nala’s son’s was one of the youngest service dogs to graduate from Bergin University.  “Impressive” I told you, Nala is special.

I am so  honored to have her in my life.  She means the world to me. She’s the reason I get out of bed in the morning, she puts a smile my face every day, she makes me laugh and gives me the best hugs ever.  Being a paraplegic it’s hard to get a good hug and Nala’s the best.  If you have depression like I do, dogs will change your life, better then any anti depressant.

I’ve always been a dog lover.  I worked in the pet Industry Practically my whole life.
When I  was 34yrs old I fell 75ft off a cliff in Machu Picchu, Peru. I broke my back, Punctured both my lungs, broke practically all my ribs,  and broke my Pelvis.  I thought my life was going to end. I was a paraplegic, I have no feeling from my chest down. I would be in a wheelchair for life. I was Devastated. Then one day I went to a handicapped  equipment  expo. Where I found the Bergin University and theit service dogs. My life changed that day.  It’s so awesome having my best friend with me everywhere I go.  She keeps me safe. Nala helps me with my anxiety, just by being by my side.  She does so much more than that for me, she opens doors by pushing buttons she picks things up for me because I’m always dropping things.  She probably picks up at least 15 items a day for me, she also pushes the elevator buttons and turns lights on and off.  Nala is always starting conversations with people asking about her. The attention helps me to get out of my shell.   Everyone smiles when they see us.  Nala’s always happy to help.
I nicknamed her Miss Wiggles, she is always smiling, wiggling her butt and wagging her tail. I just love this dog!

Last week we were in my yard when I told Nala to “ go get your ball ”.
She disappeared behind me all excited to play. When I thought I heard the Squeaking of a ball. When she came into view, there was no ball, she was crying . She was holding her back leg up and blood was pooling below her.  I Immediately got her in the car and drove her to Pet’s Friends  Animal  Hospital where they put a pressure bandage on her and took an x-ray. Then I was sent to SAGE Center. To see the surgeon.
She had practically cut her Achilles tendon in half.  I found out later that she had cut herself on a broken piece of pottery when she was looking for the ball.

She was such a trooper she was trying to console the Doctor and myself when we were trying to console her. She ended up having surgery the next day and they reattach her Achilles tendon.

She has two surgery spots and she wears a pink cast.  Which she shows off to everyone with pride.  I was told she should recover fully, but will she will need physical therapy after her cast comes off in about 6 to 8 weeks.
She is still not putting any pressure on her leg., but she seems Comfortable and not in pain.

I’m asking all my friends and family and fellow dog/animal lovers to help me with her huge surgery bill.  So far it’s up to $6000.  I live on disability with a fixed income and I need help! Please give what you can and know that Nala and I will be so grateful for your help. I’m hopping to get enough money to pay for her surgery and physical therapy.

I want to thank everyone one, especially Bergin University of Canine Studies, Sage Center, and Pets Friends Animal Clinic for all you have done.

I love you all,
Thanks Again
