First a little bit about the organization. Casas Por Cristo (which translates to House for Christ) is an organization that works by partnering local church’s with volunteers for a week to build to build houses for a family in need. They started their work in Mexico, but have expanded to also include Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. One of my favorite things about this organization is that after our work is done and we head home, the local pastor is still there working and following up with the family. I will be traveling with a group from my church (The Ransom) to Santiago, Dominican Republic in mid-July. Some of you may remember that I did a similar trip about 4 years ago to Juarez, Mexico. Ever since my last trip I have been looking for a chance to do another one, and with me starting law school this August, the timing of this trip was perfect.
I fell in love with the people and the culture on my last trip. I still think about my family from 4 years ago. It is crazy to me the depth of relationships that can be built in a weeks time and with language barriers. To me, the opportunity to get to have a relationship with my new family in the Dominican Republic is just as important as being able to build them a house.
For this trip, I will need to raise $1,400.00 (due by April 2nd). Part of this amount will go towards airfare, meals, and lodging. The other part of this amount goes towards funding the building materials for the house we are going to build (our team will be paying for the cost of the house with our combined funds).
I know that not everyone is able to support financially, and that is just fine! All support is appreciated, needed even. In fact, I am grateful if you are even still reading this. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you again for all of your support!
