TJ's Medical Equipment
TJ was your typical little boy, running, playing baseball, skinning his knees. When TJ was 5, we noticed that he couldn't really keep up with other boys his age.
His pediatrician sent us to a neurologist and he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. TJ's body does not make dystrophin which is the "glue" that holds your muscles together. This causes progressive muscle weakness of the legs, arms, hips, thighs, and trunk. As a result, he lost the ability to walk and has been confined to a wheelchair for approximately 5 years. Through all the doctor's appointments, aches and pains, he has kept his good humor and sunny personality. Now that TJ is a teenager, and is getting bigger, it has been increasingly difficult to handle his personal care needs. He currently uses a lawn chair to lie in when taking a shower which is not ideal. We are seeking funds to order a custom shower chair which would make it easier and unfortunately insurance will not cover this expense. We would be extremely grateful for any donation to help us get this for TJ.
