Hello everyone,

Liz Beckett was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.  It is a rare genetic type of cancer known as EGFR mutation lung cancer.  She was unaware that she even has it until a recent visit to the eye doctor.  During a routine examine, they discovered a tumor behind her eye and she was sent to Boston for testing.  After several appointments with specialists, it was determined that the tumor is in fact cancerous and that it originated in her lungs.  The cancer has spread, and is not only in her lungs but in her liver and brain as well.  It is unknown when the cancer started or how long Liz has been living with it, because she never had any symptoms or signs that anything was wrong and doesn't smoke.  Had she not seen the eye doctor, she would still be unaware of the cancer growing inside.

Initially, treatment for this type of lung cancer consists of a combination of prescription drugs.  However, once her body builds a resistance to them she will inevitably have to start chemotherapy and radiation.  Liz has a long road ahead of her that will consist of countless doctors appointments, numerous trips to hospitals in Boston, multiple treatments, and unimaginable amounts of costly medication.

Medical bills are expensive and never ending with cancer.  Travel expenses also add up quickly, especially when traveling from Westfield to Boston.  We are trying to raise as much money as possible to help offset some of those costs as she begins her treatment.

Cancer sucks!  It turns lives upside down for those affected and their families.  To say it is expensive is an understatement.  But treatment is imperative and necessary for survival.  In a perfect world, those with cancer should only have to focus on their treatment and survival.  Unfortunately, that is not the case and the financial aspect is a huge burden.

For those that don't know Liz, (Beckett, as she is lovingly known by her Old Navy family) is an amazing person.  She is from Westfield and has 2 children with her husband.  Her daughter is 22 and her son is 12.  Liz turned 40 this year and welcomed her first grandchild into the world 6 months ago.  She's a great friend and wonderful to work with. She always has a smile on her face and is there to help when anyone needs it.  She will be sorely missed at Old Navy this holiday season as she focuses on her treatment.  She deserves nothing but the best!

Let's see how much money we can raise to help Liz and her family! Let's help them focus on Liz and her well being and not the added financial stress!  Any amount helps, 5, 10, 15, 20, even 1$.

Thank you Kate Gordon for writing this. I Kristen palmer, Becketts coworker will be bringing the money raised to Beckett at the end of this.

Let's help Beckett kick cancers butt!!
