Mom With Parkinson's
My name is Nicole Ryan. I am 44. I've been married 14 years and have a beautiful 3  1/2 year old daughter (Makayla).
After 10 years of trying to conceive we found out in 2013 I was pregnant with Makayla. Our daughter was born 4/14/14. Later in 2014 I had a total knee replacement, which I thought would eliminate my excruciating knee pain, so I could be an active mom and pain free wife. I had the surgery and was in rehab when I noticed problems with my left side. My fingers started twitching, dragging left foot was more noticeable, absence of swinging of my left arm and balance issues with a couple of falls. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's two years ago. Since then it's been a struggle to manage it. I'm on 5 meds just for Parkinson's. I currently experience chronic back and joint pain in my left side, chronic fatigue, difficulty sleeping, falls and difficulty keeping up with my daughter. My symptoms are progressing fast and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery is the next step.
My husband (Robert) and I work full time. I work nights which my neurologist has told me I should not. My profession is a sleep technologist, which I have been doing for 14 years
While preparing for surgery I had a nuclear brain scan that was denied by my insurance with no good reason. The cost is $12,700!!I had a surgery date of Nov 16th, 2017 for DBS. The surgery was denied after attempting to get approval twice because the hospital my neuro surgeon (who is covered) performs the surgery at is not covered under my plan. I will have a different insurance plan starting January 1st 2018 which will cover most of the DBS surgery cost (including the hospital) but I will have an out-of-pocket expense of $3,000. We are in need of help to come up with $15,700 to pay the denied medical bill and come up with the out-of-pocket expense for surgery next year. If you are in a position to help us in any way let me say in advanced "Thank You".
My love for my family is great and I will do what ever it takes to keep us strong. I hope the surgery will help lessen my symptoms of Parkinson's so I can continue to help support my family financially along with being able to keep up with my energetic daughter for years to come.
Posting this and asking for assistance is very difficult for me. I won't say I'm not worried but my faith keeps me grounded. Thank you for reading and have a blessed day - Nicole
