Axel Stone

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Axel was born on September 19, 2015 a normal healthy baby. At 9 days old his family received a call that their precious baby was born without an immune system. SCID- severe combined immunodeficiency. Axel received a bone marrow transplant and within 6 weeks of transplant he developed GVHD or graft versus host disease in his gut. Axel has had over 20 surgeries and his mother Angelica Stone and father Justin Williamson have lived in the hospital for almost 2 years with him. Angelica has two other children at home Avery and Ava who she has also taken care of but missed so much time with her being in Charleston with Axel. Axel fought a hard fight. This precious child has endured more in his 22 months than most of us will endure in a lifetime. in February of this year the doctors told his family that there was nothing more they could offer. He had failed all the treatments and they said they should take him home with hospice. Several months later on June 9th Axel was finally home with his family. It wasn't the outcome they all hoped for but he was home. Hospice was coming to see him and he was so happy. This was very short lived. He has been back to the hospital for a week and was discharged to the hospice house. After a week in the hospice house they decided to take him home where he will spend his last days. I cant imagine the pain and heartache this family is going through. Who would have thought about life insurance on the day your child is born? I guess some people do but the majority of us don't. His parents lived in a hospital room for months living off of donations and family support.
