Preventing A Homeless Situation, Part 2

Donation protected
Hey everyone. We've had to re-open this campaign as Social Security Admin has yet to pay on Maryanne's or my benefit claims, despite the obvious medical evidence after her 3 strokes along with the pulmonary function test results I had confirming COPD as well as other issues I had before that.

I did not want to do this again but my daughter says I need to, so here it is - every ounce of integrity I had left be damned. I do this for my wife more than myself.

We are so grateful for the initial $3,650 that was raised the first time around. I only wish I could have anticipated what was needed better, and how much SSA really slacks on people who need what they paid for  so we wouldn't have to come back and  raise the goal to $7,000.

The additional bad health news since the last campaign has not helped either. At the end of that fundraiser that ended at the $3650 mark, I began experiencing some breathing issues. Even bending over to put the leash on my dog caused serious loss of breath where I'd almost pass out at times.

I went to my Dr and we had a pulmonary function test done. I was  diagnosed with COPD from that test. Although I quit smoking a year and half ago I was not able to avoid this problem. It's pretty bad at times, any physical exertion causes me to gasp for air. Even prolonged conversation is difficult at times. Now I'm unable to work along with my wife until SSA also approves my benefit request.

To top that off, my Unemployment Insurance had exhausted so we are now at zero income. Nothing, Nada. So I have no choice but to re-open this campaign and hope for the best.

We've been fighting SSA to pay us for months now. Maryanne for almost a year. It's ridiculous that they take so much time to get people's own money back to them. They sure as hell didn't wait to take it out of our paychecks for the last few decades.

On my COPD thing, it is something that should qualify for an automatic approval of benefits. I initially filed on October 31st of last year (2019).  According to SSA's "Blue book", my COPD should qualify for such an approval. I'm 70 inches tall and the FEV1 test result I had was 1.74. Their Blue Book says "less than or equal to " 1.75 as the criteria. Yet we still wait for "processing the medical portion of your benefit application."

They've been "processing" this information since 11/18/2019 (see pics).

So now here we are. Neither of us able to work and waiting for SSA to do their jobs. It's been so frustrating that I have reached out to one of our elected officials in congress, Senator Jackie Rosen. Her staff responded yesterday and have begun reviewing why we've had to continue to wait despite the obvious medical evidence from our doctors. Although we are glad her office is getting involved, there's no guarantee that SSA moves their butts on account of a Senator wanting them to.

The goal has been moved to $7,000 so we can try to cover our living expenses for January and February. Hopefully by then, this will be resolved. As of right now, we expect an eviction notice within the next few days.

Edit: Eviction noticed received.
