Thomas Mitchell Happy Feet Fund

Hello. My name is Christie and my brother-in-law, Thomas
Mitchell, was in a serious automobile accident on July 15th and was
badly injured. He was on his way to work in the morning and was hit, head on by
another car that came completely into his lane. Tom is lucky to be alive. His
car was totaled and the pictures of the car are gut-wrenching to look at. Tom suffered a fractured femur and
shattered kneecap in his left leg and multiple fractures in both his feet. Tom
is currently confined to a wheelchair. He has just come home
from the hospital after 32 days, including having emergency surgery for his
leg, a procedure for internal bleeding, blood transfusions, and inpatient rehab
to build his upper body strength. He may need additional surgery on
his feet and will need extensive outpatient rehabilitation. Tom has a very long road to recovery ahead of
him.
This situation would be difficult for anyone; however Tom and Keri Anne have a four and a half year old son and a newborn daughter, only 3 weeks old at the time of the accident. Tom is on disability leave from his job and my sister, Keri Anne, is on unpaid leave to take care of him. This event has turned the whole family's life upside down.
Tom and Keri Anne are not the kind of people to ask for help in this situation and have both worked very hard to get to where they are today. I am doing this with the hopes of helping to relieve some of their stress and worry about finances, so that they can concentrate on what is truly important, helping Tom heal and get back to his old self again.
The driver of the car that came into Tom's lane does not have car insurance. While the driver of the other car walked away from the accident without injury and financial responsibility, Tom and Keri Anne have medical bills and financial obligations that are continuing to pile up. Tom is expected to make a full medical recovery, but the financial setbacks caused by the accident remain challenging. That's why we are asking for your help. Please consider making a donation. Any contribution will make a big difference!
We are also planning a beef-n-beer benefit. Please consider buying tickets for the Thomas Mitchell Happy Feet Benefit on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the North Penn VFW Post 676 in Glenside. This fundraising event will feature roast beef, meatballs, potato & macaroni salad, draft beer, a live Band and DJ, 50/50 Raffle tickets, a Chinese auction, Baskets of Cheer, and Door prizes. All proceeds will go directly to Tom's family to support his ongoing care and eventual full healing. For more information, please contact me.
