Derrick's Recovery Fund

Please help us raise money for this amazing man, father and future husband. Derrick (D Rock) Hicks. Derrick is 37 years old an overall great guy who has recently been suffering many unforeseen health issues. He wasn't feeling well and went to a local hospital after work one day and was told he has an infection in his lungs and was giving a steroid injection and antibiotics. After completing his medicine and steadily getting worse his fiancé and family pushed him to go to another facility. After getting seen by a physician at health care express Derrick was told he has a collapsed lung and the doctor was shocked he could still walk. He was then an direct admit to CSMH where they inserted a chest tube and then found he also had a blood clot. During this early morning he had a massive stroke which caused some of the left side of his brain to die. Derrick was then air lifted to CHRISTUS Mary Frances in Tyler. His mother and fiancé was then told there was no hope for D he was brain dead. By the grace of god a neurosurgeon gave them hope that he could help by preforming brain surgery to remove the dead parts of his brain but there are risk. Mrs. Shirlean Hicks and Latoya Threadgill praised God for a chance at getting him back. The brain surgery was performed on 21st and as of now Derrick is still on the ventilator unable to fully breathe by himself . Derrick is a hard working man he works full time at CertainTeed plant in Nashville he has three kids who are very active in sports and great students in our local schools. Currently Derrick and Latoya's wedding is planned for July 8th in Ashdown. They have been planning this wedding for months and family from all over we're planning to attend. Latoya works full time as well at Life Share blood center where she is a phlebotomist she has two children who are younger. Together their sweet family is blended into a perfect puzzle. The wedding has been pushed back for a year to give time for D Rock to recover. The doctors right now are saying it will take months of recovery and he may still not be back to a 100%. This is a long road ahead of this family. Mrs. Shirlean and Latoya have not left his side right now the family is doing everything they can to help them while going through this awful time. Everyone works full time and with this they are unable to at work and be by his side. Even with insurance he will need intensive therapy and the house hold bills won't stop. These people are hard working American's that give to this community and now in their time of need we as a community can give to them. Please anything helps. God Bless!
