Todd Anderson's Road To Recovery

Todd Anderson:

Life can change, for better or for worse, in the blink of an eye

Todd Anderson's parents learned this when he was born on September 6, 1990. In the blink of an eye, the Anderson family received a piece to their family puzzle that they didn't even know was missing. Todd is the baby of the family, and grew up with 3 big brothers to teach, love, and support him, eventually turning him into the amazing 22-year-old that blesses our lives every single day.

On the 4th of July, a chain of events changed the Anderson family's life again in the blink of an eye.

Todd was riding an ATV with family, and fell off backwards, striking the back of his head first. Todd suffered severe skull fractures and a lot of swelling within his brain began to occur. Surgeries were performed in order to alleviate the swelling, and part of his skull was removed in an attempt to relieve some of the pressure from within Todd's head as well as a portion of the right frontal lobe of his brain. He was placed in a coma, as doctor's explained that there wasn't much more that they could do. At this point, Todd's future wasn't in the hands of his loved ones, his nurses, doctors, or even in the hands of modern medicine. Todd's future was in the hands of someone much higher the Lord his God, and He has continued to change our lives every single day. He showed us that life might change in the blink of an eye, but that the blink of an eye can also completely change someone's life.

He changed our lives with Todd's first blink of his eye, wiggle of his fingertips, and crooked smile as we played country music in his hospital room. Todd's strength and will to live has humbled us all to the core, and he serves as an inspiration to those around him every single day.

Although Todd has continued to surprise us daily against all odds, he has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He will need to relearn to do every daily task that we so often take for granted. Walking, talking, feeding himself, --even how to tie his own shoes. Each tiny victory is nothing short of a miracle.

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful support system full of prayers, love, and kindness throughout this difficult time. What we thought was a tragedy has now turned into one of the most inspiring, humbling, and divine experiences that our lives have been blessed with. We know that Todd is a fighter, and with the support of his amazing family and friends, he will continue to recover"”one blink of an eye at a time.
