We're sorry to share that Dawn Pickett tragically lost her battle on the morning of Sunday, September 17th. We're still in shock. She was an incredible woman, daughter, and mother whose loss will be felt so many. Donations are still being accepted to help her family cover funeral expenses. Dawn is my life long friend. We have been there for each other through life's ups and downs, and I would like to be there for her now. I am asking for help to hopefully lessen her financial burdens . Dawns faith is something fierce, but this cancer has been tough! Although, she would never want to ask for help Dawn needs and deserves it. Please take a moment to read her story. Roki Henderson -
It's been a challenging year and a half to say the least. In December 2015, Dawn was diagnosed with Stage T-3 B Bladder Cancer. She soon underwent Chemotherapy at MD Anderson in Houston Feb - April 2016, followed by surgery May 2016 to remove her bladder and have a new one "built" using her lower intestine - medical advancements are amazing! In February of 2017 she was approved for a new Immunotherapy Clinical Trial at MDA. Unfortunately, it came with medical complications and she was pulled out of the trial and then faced multiple hospital stays. Between insurance deductibles, copays, medications, parking, etc., and some unpaid medical leave time, the cost to keep up has eaten through all savings and now she's in jeopardy of losing her home. Dawn is a single mom of 2 grown children and has been the sole income provider for her household for many, many years. She continues to work full time for a company and job she loves and is very hopeful of the future. Her faith is very strong and she knows God has a plan for her life. "Giving it up to Him has been hard yet also very comforting - to know His plan is the only plan there is & the only one needed brings me great peace." She's in need of help, big or small, anything would be greatly appreciated.
