Hi Everyone,
This is Steve Adams. I never thought that I would have to be doing this, but the time has come.
Back in October of 2014, I was an over the road truck driver and I had an accident in the truck.
I wound up in the hospital in Fargo, ND and was diagnosed with having a seizure along with other injuries. After a 6 day stay, I was able to go home and immediately got an appointment at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Mn for testing. Diagnosis was "Epilepsy". This diagnosis was a "permanent disqualification of my career as a Truck driver". I started on Seizure meds at that time. Since then ( almost 3 years) I have had 5 seizures that have interrupted my life in many ways (financially, physically and job wise ) The Drs.
have upped my meds or changed my meds after every seizure. They mentioned surgery everytime I had another seizure. After the last seizure in May 2017, there was a serious conversation about surgery. The Drs. felt that since they have tried 3 meds and can not increase the meds I was presently on, that they wanted to do some tests. As a result, I was a " Good Candidate" (as the Dr. said) for surgery. The procedure was to go into my brain and remove the lesion and scar tissue in my right frontal lobe of the brain. I had the surgery on July 21 and am in the recovery stage now. I can't do anything for a month and up to 2 - 3 months before I can return to work (not sure I will have a job at that point). Then up to 9 months before everything is completely healed.
As a result of the lack of work in the last 3 years (I've worked about 18 months of the last 36 months), my savings have been depleted and no idea what the future will hold.
With the ongoing medical expenses and lack of work, there is a need to ask for help .
