On December 26th a snowstorm hit Willow Creek, California after two years of wildfires and an atmospheric river. Sarah, Gunther, Kai, Marley and Cedar spent a number of nights on the first floor of their A-frame home listening as trees fell around them. The first night no one slept as the sound was overwhelming. Sarah describes it as the most frightening experience of her life.
Homes and vehicles were destroyed and one young man was killed when a tree fell on him. Amazingly, the Johnson house is without damage but there are a number of trees hanging above their home that are extremely precarious. The hillside the trees stand on is unaccessible to equipment so climbers will have to go up trees that are nearby to access the damaged trees. The estimated cost to get those trees most likely to destroy the home is $10,000. To tend to the whole property the cost is closer to $30,000. Homeowners insurance will not cover it unless damage has been done. UGH!
Timing is important since the ground is saturated. More rain is coming and it’s crucial to get the taken care of. If you are able to provide any monetary or emotional support it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
