Cindy's Medical Fund

Our mom is a strong woman.  As far back as I can remember, she has been tough in the face of so many obstacles.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great childhood, with parents for whom I wouldn't trade for anyone else in the world. However, that doesn't mean that our lives didn't come without much struggle and many hardships.

I think back to the challenges that she had to face so that my sister, brother and I lived normal, healthy and happy lives. She sacrificed so much in so many aspects of her life so that the memories of our childhood turned out as what we remember them to be... memorable and very very happy.

Specifically, I've seen her battle many health scares over the years. I know she's strong. I know that she can get through anything. Now, she's sick and needs the help of anyone who can and will. My entire family does really.

The medical bills themselves are a financial drain to my father. I, honestly, can't fathom nor would I ever want to imagine the stress that he must be under right now. He has spent over 20 years with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. I'm very proud of him. He is such a person that I look up to in my life, but I know that this is too much for one person to handle alone.

About a year ago, my mom received the diagnosis that she had cirrhosis of the liver. That news was honestly one of the darkest moments of our lives. However, we did all we could do. We pushed on day by day. We prayed. We believe that our mom can overcome this.

The doctor explained pretty much what we could expect following the prognosis. To the best of my knowledge until she gets a liver transplant then she's only going to get sicker. Never in a million years could I have even prepare myself for this.

Currently, she is in the ICU of Houston Methodist Hospital. The doctors moved her there a couple of days ago. She's at the point to where we don't know how much sicker she can get without a new liver nor do we want to find out.  We just hope and pray that God comes through. So, if you're a praying person, please do that.

Financially, whatever we can raise would help the medical costs tremendously. My dad has the entire weight of the world on his shoulders right now, and a medical fund would help him with the overwhelming cost of medical bills plus the many other expenses he has to face during this challenging time. By other expenses, it would be anything related to food, shelter, etc. while he is with my mother in Houston.

Lastly, please spread the word about organ donation. It's so uneasy to think how my family is here praying and hoping for a liver match for our mother, knowing what another family is losing. That sentiment is in our hearts and minds.

Please, friends, family, strangers, help spread the word.
