Animal Cruelty - Vet Bill for L.D.

******Update*******He should be in surgery right now. I got a closer estimate on this second surgery. He quoted $1900ish. Thats the surgery plus the $800+ for treating him since Friday or Saturday (can't remember what day I brought him there). Much better than the 4-6k I was quoted at the other hospital. Dr. Upton at Pacific Pet Hospital said if L.D. is pretty alert after the surgery then I can look forward to bringing him home tonight. I've missed Little Dude so much.
****UPDATE**** I moved him to another hospital that quoted me a lot cheaper than the emergency vet did although the vet hadn't seen the xrays yet. I will change the goal amount once I know for sure what the quote might be by Saturday or on Monday when they do the actual surgery. Im hoping to end the bill at or around $6000 but I wont know for sure until then.

My 6 month old kitten L.D. was let out of the house yesterday morning around 7:30-8am (8-7-13)
and 1-1.5 hours later I went searching for him because he didn't come back to eat his food.
I found him behind our house in the canyon crying. I at first thought he was attacked by a neighbors dog and noticed he had a broken back right leg. 
I rushed him to the Pet Emergency & Specialty Center in Chula Vista only to find out that it was not a dog and it turned out someone had shot him with a bb gun and he had 6-10 copper bbs in his body. 
And his back right femur is completely broken in two. He was only outside an hour to an hour and a half tops and I couldn't find anyone out there. 
Luckily he had the will to crawl back just outside our back fence to cry for help.
They said they removed 4 bbs from him. And they let us take home 2 for documentation.
As you can tell there were a lot in him
One was removed from his spleen which resulted in them removing part of his spleen. They removed 2 from his intestines. And one from his chest and had to fix his abdomen.
He was shot just under his nose that went through and broke one of his teeth and that copper bb is now in his stomach. 
They left some bbs since they were just under the skin and not worth doing surgery to remove them. 
There's still his back leg to fix. 
The vet bill is so much at this point but I couldn't put him down. My goal is 7,000-8,000 but I guarantee the actual bill with be more than that since its already more than half that and they haven't even started on his leg. I would appreciate any help I can get with this.
I have filed reports with the Humane Society and San Diego Police Department but the chances of finding who did this is pretty slim. I didn't see anyone out there and neither did my neighbors. But my neighbors dogs did start crazy barking about 30 mins before I found L.D. so that must have been when it happened. I don't know how anyone can do that to an innocent animal let alone a kitten.
Who would want to hurt this cute little guy?
Currently I am shopping around for vets that can perform his leg surgery for cheaper. I will change the donation amount I need when I find out for sure the amount.
