Disabled Writer Fights to Keep Writing
Donation protected
Rodger
Jacobs is an accomplished professional writer suffering from a rare,
irreversible form of severe arthritis in his hands, feet, and legs. This fund
is for his medical expenses, clothing, and fresh food to keep him writing in
2013.
Rodger is in constant, debilitating pain. He is under a doctor's care on a monthly basis and receives limited Social Security Disability with Medicare for several ailments, including crippling psoriatic arthropathy (arthritis). On some days his hands are so swollen, he cannot personally buckle his belt or tie his own shoelaces. Rodger is determined to devote a few hours each day to writing literary fiction.
The goal of this fund is $3,000 to cover expenses for the rest of this year so Rodger can continue to write without worry. Your contribution to this fund will be applied to Rodger's out-of-pocket medical needs.
· Daily prescription medication co-pays
· Over-the-counter prescribed vitamins and medicines
· Gauze and bandages for hands and feet (used daily)
· Replacement clothing due to constant laundering
· Clean shoes and new socks
· Doctor visit co-pays
· Fresh food to absorb medications properly
· Ergonomic office chair to alleviate severe joint pain (one-time expense)
· A new walking cane (one-time expense)
Let's keep Rodger writing! Rodger's first novel, The Furthest Palm, was published in 2012. A recent review column, "Nazi Noir: The Ghost of the Prophet of Fascism," is online at L.A. Review of Books, and an original work of short fiction, "The Air Down There," is featured in Green: An Eclectic Anthology of Poetry and Prose (2013, Silver Birch Press). His short story "No Style, No Grace, No Mercy" will appear in the print edition of Underground Voices in December 2013.
As Rodger's primary caregiver and constant companion for more than eight years, I believe in this man and his commitment to literature. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your consideration.
