Nobody wants to see their big strong dad sick, especially when they are sick with a debilitating disease like cancer. About a month ago my dad Dan was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. He noticed a lump on his chest and thought it was a cyst so he tried to treat it with essential oils. After a week with no results of it going away, he got it checked out and the biopsy showed it was cancerous. After a Ct scan, it was found that the cancer had spread to his liver, right lung and spinal cord. Because this type of cancer is so aggressive they decided about a week later to do an MRI of his brain to find it had also traveled there. Within a day of meeting with his oncologist, he developed a brain bleed on his brain stem and was rushed to ER. The bleed has caused major damage to his brain which has caused him to lose most of his motor skills, including speech and movement. He has been in the hospital since May 6th. After being in ICU for about a week, Loma Linda Medical Hospital felt it was necessary for him to be moved to a skilled nursing facility for major rehabilitation to renew his lost motor skills. He has been at Brookside Nursing facility in Redlands since May 13th, where he is fighting for his life. His Dr's are doing their best to get him started on proton therapy for his brain and immunotherapy for his body but unfortunately the treatments have not started yet, as brain proton therapy is extremely risky and needs to be precise, otherwise it is putting the patient at risk for possible death during radiation. During this entire process, my mom Becky has been his rock, she has stood by his side, slept at the hospital countless nights, and has devoted her life to making sure Dan is getting the proper care, only to keep hitting road blocks, with the the latest, finding out their insurance doesn't cover the facility where he is currently at. She has already paid over $7,000 in medical bills out of pocket and money is getting extremely low. We have continually put our faith in Jesus and have had so much support from our church, and we are truly grateful for their support. Unfortunately this is our last stitch effort as the bills are piling up. We are asking for any help with donations to make sure he is able to get his treatments so we can prolong his life. Anything will help.
