Volunteering in Haiti
Donation protected
Hey everyone, i'll be returning to Haiti this November to volunteer as a nurse with International Medical Relief and visit the Passion Rescue Mission orphanage in Francois.
I've volunteered in Haiti a few times before providing medical care and education and fell in love with the people there. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and the people there face extreme poverty, political instability, natural disasters and lack of water infrastructure causing preventable conditions like cholera. Other common illnesses include bacterial and fungal infections, scabies, malaria, wounds, stds, symptoms from environmental irritants and complications from untreated chronic illnesses. Haitians are the toughest and kindest people I have ever met; strong and proud but with a wonderful sense of humor. I can't wait to go back
I am a registered nurse with a background in cardiac and trauma nursing, public health and health education. I will soon be a family nurse practitioner. Helping those less fortunate than myself is very important to me and my initial motivation to become a nurse.
I'm raising money for my volunteer contribution that includes medications, supplies and very modest accomodations. I'm also collecting donations, school supplies and children's socks for the orphanage in Francois.
Thank you in advance for your support
