Tom Mirsen's Healing & Recovery

In early July, my brother-in-law, Tom Mirsen, was hit by a car while riding his bike. He suffered massive physical and brain injuries. He was in a coma in the trauma ICU for 4 weeks, with much of this time spent on a ventilator. When he became minimally conscious, he was transferred to an inpatient brain injury rehabilitation program. He has made some progress but remains severely physically disabled. Tom needs round the clock care. Two caregivers are required for transfers from bed to wheelchair and the like. He is due to be discharged from rehab in mid-November but still has a very, very long road ahead. My sister is in dire need of funds including an estimated $150,000 to hire a full-time caregiver for a year to assist her in Tom’s care, and $50,000 for a van with a wheelchair lift and home modifications.
