Orthotics For Emily

ORTHOTICS FOR EMILY!
Emily is a 4 year old proud perinatal (at birth) stroke survivor! Her courage and tenacity during difficult therapies amazes me. Her whole life has involved therapy and specialist appointments and tests!
As part of Emily's stroke recovery, she needs custom orthotics for both her legs/ankles/feet. It's a long story, but the orthotics she has had made for her here in Canada have not been suitable (she has been in ankle-foot orthoses - AFOs - since she could stand). She needs orthotics to help her develop gross motor skills (running, balance, stair climbing, etc) normally as well as to help her legs grow properly (her affected leg is smaller, which is common).
We have found a specialist in New York (a neurosurgeon who had a stroke himself, and retrained in pediatric orthopedics/podiatry) who has agreed to help Emily. He has kindly done some video consultations with us and has agreed to make specialized AFOs for her legs/feet in the fall.
Our expenses will all be out-of-pocket, since we are choosing to go out of country (there is no one in Canada who makes ones like these). Very gratefully, we have received donations in air miles to cover our flights!!!
We are hoping to raise funds to cover the orthotics themselves, and the hotel and airport transportation.
We are having an online fundraising garage sale (kijiji and facebook sites), and are gladly accepting donations of toys, clothing, and small household goods! We can accept donations of items for sale in Saskatoon and Lethbridge. Please email me for more details or for pick-up and drop-off information!
I will keep this page updated with our fundraising progress.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!
