Jennifer Brantley & family

I'm trying to pass around the hat for my not-a-sister, Jennifer Brantley and her sister. For those of you who don't know me well, you may be thrown. What is a not-a-sister? words are of upmost importance for me. There is no word in existence today that fits who this woman is to me. She is not just a friend but not technically family either, not a sister. I think there is no word for her yet because she is unprecedented and is irreplaceable.

Recently, Jennifer's father died. His death came unexpectedly. In one month's time, her father went from initial diagnosis to passing away. Jennifer, her sister and her family members carried the weight of her father's care during that month, for one month they set all aside and made showing this man something and loving him fully their life's sole focus. Jennifer took leave from work to stay with her father and care for him around the clock. When he died, he died in Jennifer's arms.

This story is hard to live through, many of you have lived a similar story so you know. On top of the emotional and physical demands, Jennifer, must now see to the final arrangements. They have no burial insurance.

This is the important part for me to tell you. Jennifer is a woman who stands up for people who can not stand on their own. I met her during the hardest time in my life. I knew her for months before I finally approached her; I knew we needed to be friends. I saw her survival and empathy, as many people have. She is a single mother of four returning to university and working, which is probably the most challenging and disadvantaged (often unfairly) life being lived in modern culture. Jennifer and I met studying political science as working single mothers and found common ground not only in our common struggles but in our determination to change the situation for all that face it. Despite all on her shoulders, Jennifer stood up to find ways to make life easier for others. She helped me personally when she never had to with so much on her plate. And, In our first 8 months working together we raised funds for two scholarships alone. This is who Jennifer is when she is just getting started and against all odds.

This, above all else, is important to me. This woman helps people because people need help and right now she really needs help. We are trying a last minute campaign to raise funds to help this family. For those of you who know Jennifer, you know she'd stop everything to help where she can. For those of you who don't know her, only know me, I rarely ever solicit money, not even on my own behalf, so understand this is so important. This woman can't fall over something so simple, all she needs is a little help! A lot of you tithe, I can't express enough that this is tithe-worthy. Even $5-$10 adds up. Please help. I'm setting up a donation site, so you can make payments from anywhere. Please contact me as soon as possible for details and options.
