Wheels for Mex

Mex is a 5 year old German Shepherd and a retired Contract Working Dog (CWD). He was diagnosed with severe Hip Dysplasia and Canine Degenerative Myelopathy. This is an incurable, progressive disease of the canine spinal cord that is similar in many ways to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Mex is no longer able to use is hind legs for standing or walking. We use a Help 'Em Up Harness to get around in the house. To be mobile outdoors, he needs a cart, wheelchair, for his hind legs. With the cost of the cart, physical therapy, laser treatments and medications, the vet bills are mounting up. We were blessed on October 4, 2012 with the adoption of Mex from Military Working Dog Adoptions. As I mentioned, CWD Mex is a retired Contract Working Dog that worked as a Patrol / Narcotic Detection Dog(PNDD) for 2 years in Afghanistan. A CWD is owned by a private contracting company and is contracted with the Department of Defense (DoD) to work alongside Military Working Dogs (MWD's) protecting our service men and women.

On June 11, 2013, CWD Mex received the United States Military Working Dog Service Award. The United States War Dog Association presents this award to Contract Working Dogs who have served in support of a United States Military unit while deployed to a combat zone.
Please help me honor this hero!

**Please note** any funds received over the goal amount will be donated to Military Working Dog Adoptions and The United States War Dog Association.
