A service dog for Megan

How could this happen....

life was so normal… and then ......Megan’s diagnoses

It was just the second day of her senior year of high school and out of the blue Megan had her first Grand Mal seizure. The night mare continues 7 years later…. Megan was a happy healthy 17 year old who had a 3.89 GPA who had a love for animals and wanted to go to college to be a vet or vet tech. Now after countless medications, failed lobectomy and well, 10-30 seizures daily she is forgetful, fearful of falling and unable to remember her phone number or address, even simple math or counting change back is very difficult or impossible for her. Megan continues to see doctors very 2-3 months for monitoring, but still has many seizure daily. In 2012 we saw doctors at the Mayo clinic and they had no new ideas, only to try a new environment or an emergency medical response service dog.

Megan’s family strives for a better life for her continuously. Even after multiple surgeries, medications, nerve stimulation, diet change and moving to a new home, she is still plagued with multiple seizures daily that take away her memory, her word finding and her ability to be alone safely-and to have a "normal" adult life.

Her parents are hoping a service dog can add a sense of security for Meg and maybe give her a little more independence. Megan is unable to work due to the seizures but she still loves animals so she helps out in a pet store a couple hours a week and volunteers to cuddle the cats an hour a week at our animal shelter.

Independence....sometimes, we take it for granted.

Megan – along with her friends and family aren’t thinking about the obstacles she will face.  What’s on her wish list…..#1 wish- is not to have a disability with so many daily seizures!

What’s guaranteed to make the biggest and most positive impact in her life? What will help her overcome challenges, comfort her, and achieve greater independence?  A service dog!

The opportunity before you is to partner with Service Dogs for America in meeting the vital financial needs for this young lady.  Your gift will release the financial burden from Megan’s family.

Thank you for opening the door into a world of possibilities for Megan!
