Urgent Fund Raising Effort for Na Wahine O Ke Kai on Sept. 22, 2013
"From the Mountains to the Sea" ... so the Koa log came to us from the mountains of Hawaii and was fashioned by skilled, loving hands into the canoe- Holonakaiakea. The treasure of Kamehameha Canoe Club, whose name means "Swift moving ocean current", she has carried our club members in many races around the Island of Hawaii. However, she has one challenge yet to surmount. The women of Kamehameha canoe club are extremely proud and blessed to have the opportunity to take Holonakaiakea from Molokai to Oahu across the Kaiwi Channel. 2013 will be the 35th anniversary of the event known as Na Wahine O Ke Kai - Women of The Sea. A grueling 41 mile race through the ever changing waters of the channel. It is the ultimate challenge for any team and any canoe. Please help us fulfill Holonakaiakea's destiny!
Please read this brilliant essay by Pua Mendonca for more about our canoe and why we need to send her: http://www.kcchilo.org/koa_essay.html
Where your donations will go:
Canvas for Holonakaiakea - $2200
Shipping to and from the event - $1600 - yikes!
Retrofits to strengthening her hull and add on rails - $200
