Making Memories With Lexi

Lexis Story.Lexi was born with ultra short bowel syndrome (intestinal failure) she has numerous operations to lengthen her bowel as she was only born with 10cm. Unfortunately this type of treatment has been unsuccessful . Lexi has a central line for TPN (Total Parental Nutrition) to keep her alive as she is unable to absorb any nutrients from eating. Lexi has had 14 central lines replaced due to line sepsis and now all her main veins used for access are all blocked including the one she currently has is partially blocked is why Lexis prognosis is poor and now attending Rachel's House Childrens Hospice She is currently on the transplant list for a small bowel, liver and stomach. A small bowel transplant itself isn't overly recognised with only 2000 done worldwide. In Birmingham childrens hospital 93 small bowels have been transplanted (on 89 patients) since 1993, currently 41 patients of the patients attend follow up clinic appointments. With lexis added complications with line access her chances of surviving transplant and post transplant are so much lower as she needs tpn to intravenously feed her to keep her alive and if Lexi looses this line they cannot offer anymore treatment. As a family we want to live life in present and make as many memories as possible with Lexi and little sister Maya. As Lexi is on the transplant list we can't do normal things like go on holiday, we're in and out of hospital a lot of the time which is over 200 miles away from home. We would kindly appreciate any small donations to help Lexi live life to the full due to uncertainty surrounding Lexis future.
