Vanessa needs your help to replace her stolen photography gear!
In January of 2013 I moved to San Pedro Sula, Honduras to volunteer for a year doing missionary and humanitarian work. Prior to moving, I sold/gave away all I owned to try to raise money to support myself for the year. (You can read the full blog post about it HERE.) Many of you helped me to reach my goal then, and I am SO grateful for your love, generosity and support!
Two months ago the house where I was living in Honduras was broken into and robbed. (You can read my full blog post about it HERE.) Thankfully none of us were home or harmed but unfortunately all of my camera equipment and my computer gear was stolen along with many other valuables in the house - about $12,000 worth of gear. I filed a claim through insurance and unfortunately they only covered $3,000 - in hindsight, it wasn't a very good insurance plan. With the money from insurance I was able to replace my computer and thankfully with apple's 'time machine' was able to completely restore everything on my computer - which I was super grateful for. Having my computer has allowed me to stay connected and to continue to edit photos from my point and shoot and also to make videos to encourage the church here. I recently volunteered as the photography director at a conference in Panama and was able to borrow a DSLR camera from a friend to photograph the whole weekend and put together a 'highlight' video. All of this has helped me to realize how much I love photographing people, telling stories and that I desperately want to continue doing it!
I have hopes and dreams of staying in Central America for at least another 7 months to continue doing missionary and humanitarian work and I believe that there is much more that I could do if I had professional photography equipment. There are stories to be told. Photographs and videos to be made. And so, I am humbly asking for your help in any way you can. Your donation will go towards replacing my equipment and it will continue to touch the lives of others as I will be able to continue my work here in Central America. I have included above a 'wish list' of gear that I would like to purchase. If you or perhaps someone you know has 'extra' gear sitting around or is selling their used gear - please let me know as it could be a viable option! Thank you again!
