Internship in Costa Rica

In August of 2018, I am planning on returning to Costa Rica to work abroad for a year. I will be working alongside one of my mentors, Professor and Deaconess Heidi Michelsen, to work in the community in many diverse ways. First, I will be helping in her church, Sola Fe which ministers to Nicaraguan immigrants outside of the capital city of San José. I will be leading a youth ministry program and teaching music lessons at the church. I will also be a participant in Casa Adobe, a home where residents live in intentional Christian community. There, I will engage in Bible studies, community building activities in the neighborhood, and will be tutoring English. I will also be an interpreter for small school groups that come to Costa Rica for medical mission trips.

Teaching in Costa Rica will be an opportunity to share relationships with young adults and continue working with English language learners. Being immersed in a Spanish-speaking country will help expand my vocabulary and help me better accompany my future TESOL students in the United States. Upon returning to the United States, I hope to ultimately pursue a master’s in education or TESOL. This experience would help prepare me for a future in both the educational and ministry fields, however, it does have some costs.

This venture requires $6,500 for the full year abroad. That cost includes food, housing with a host family, water and electric, and public transportation costs. I am writing you to ask if you would help me in my fundraising? Donations of any kind are welcome. Would you be willing to donate for a day, a week, or even a month? If you cannot donate, prayers are appreciated throughout this process and my continued time abroad.
