As a night manager at Heartly House, Nicole Smallcomb is an invaluable member of the Frederick community. For 20 years (6 years of volunteer service and 14 years of full-time employment), she has tirelessly assisted many survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She has done this selflessly, always with compassion and love. This is just her nature. Outside of work, Nicole is always willing to help, nurture, hold and care for friends, animals and even strangers in need - her heart is wide and tender.
Now Nicole needs our help.
On October 30, Nicole ended up in the emergency room for a newly diagnosed, chronic condition. She has not been able to work and has had to return to the ER for repeated treatments of the condition. She is chipping away at her sick leave. An ultrasound has revealed that there is a benign tumor complicating matters. On top of that, another procedure will need to take place before this pressing medical work can begin. The result will be three separate surgical procedures to address all of her body's needs.
Doctors have indicated that Nicole will need to take a medical leave of up to 4 months. As a single woman living alone, Nicole will have no income while she takes the necessary time off of work for surgery and recovery. Nicole needs $9,000 to help with day to day expenses--this is just a small fraction of what she will need to address this medical issue. She will be depleting all of her savings, incurring credit card debt, and will still have medical debt after receiving these funds.
Nicole has lovingly offered our community so much with her career, creativity, encouragement, focus on social justice, delicious meals, shoulder to cry on, friendship, childcare, and more. Please join me with a contribution to help Nicole during this time of need, so she can continue to serve others when they are in their time of need.
