Face Shields for COVID-19 Frontline Workers
Hello friends!
The last few months have changed the world. Our economy has ground to a halt and most of us are at home under quarantine. I was laid off from my job as a computer programmer last Friday, March 20th and joined the already millions of unemployed.
But the heroes are still out there working in our hospitals and clinics! And they have run out of personal protective equipment (PPE). This is an opportunity for all of us to help!
I’ve designed a simple plastic visor that can be 3D printed to create face shields. Face shields are not meant to filter air; they are meant to keep droplets from the eyes, nose and face (both ways). They are usually worn in addition to goggles and a face mask. Frontline health care workers are not only running out of masks and goggles, they also need these face shields!
I think we can produce 100-200 of these per day, but we need help with supplies. To make these shields, we need:
* Plastic filament for 3D printed visor
* Clear plastic binding covers
* Elastic band
* Backing rod (mini pool-noodles) for head comfort
I’ve created an Amazon wish list and linked to it below. We currently have enough supplies on hand for about 200 of these face shields but we will go through those supplies by end of weekend, so we need your help to continue producing them. All face shields will be donated to front line health care workers. I already have a few contacts but feel free to contact us if you know healthcare workers in need of these shields.
At the same time, I also need to support my family. Money collected through this GoFundMe will be used to pay for bills and food while my wife and daughters and I concentrate on this project full time. We will keep making these shields and donating them until there is no more demand!
