Help Isaiah receive life-saving heart surgery next month
17-year old Isaias Guerra Ramirez “Isaiah” loves the game of soccer like most teen boys his age growing up in rural Mexico. Yet for most of his life, he has not been able to play – just watch from the sidelines due to a constant, advancing fatigue.
Last summer Isaiah’s mother found out that a free medical clinic from America was coming to their remote village outside Ensenada for one day, and she knew she needed to take her son there to find out what was wrong.
It was there at the Ensenada Medical Mission -- @saintbarnabaspage, @MayoClinic, @RLCScottsdale -- that a medical team equipped with a portable ultrasound found the problem: a large hole in his heart known to them as an atrial septal defect. This hole has grown over his short life, causing the right side of his heart to be dangerously enlarged.
The team immediately knew that only skilled heart surgery would save Isaiah’s life and that it needed to happen as soon as possible. Yet the surgery would never be possible where he lives and his family would never be able to afford it.
But the miracle that brought Isaiah to this clinic that one hot day in July, would not end there. We were notified just last week that the gift of heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic Rochester has been granted to Isaiah next month!
We humbly ask for your prayers for this young man and for his surgery set for August 25 — and if able, your gift toward transportation and basic expenses to get him and his mom from Mexico to Minnesota and back. There is unspeakable joy among this mission team for Isaiah and his family as they can now imagine his future – so full of potential.
$3100 is needed by August 5 to fund round trip airline tickets and very basic expenses for Isaiah and his mom for the duration of his surgery and recovery.
