Aloha,
It is difficult for me to write this letter, however, challenging health circumstances have made it necessary for me to ask for your assistance.
I have been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma cancer. Since October, I have been treating it with alternative means. The Biopsy in May and a cat scan show tumors are in the groin and pelvis, etc.
This is a lot to process. Hospice is in place, and I am so grateful for their help in many ways. I pray to live and die with awareness and consciousness. I believe the end of life and the death transition is as sacred as birth. How can we help each other die with respect and honor?
My desire is to die in my home, a sweet, cozy, cottage where I have lived for more than 7 of 14 years on Kauai. I am facing a daunting financial hurdle to be able to pay expenses. I have been unable to work for about 6 months and need help paying for rent and utilities which are my largest cost. This amounts to about $1400 a month. I am getting food stamps. I have looked into government and state agencies without any success to date.
If you know of any philanthropic organizations that may contribute to end of life financial needs, please let me know.
I am reaching out to my friends, hoping some of you might be in a position to donate $25, 50, or 100 a month. (Any amount is gratefully welcomed). I feel humbled and vulnerable to have to ask for help in this way. If monies come in from another source, I will let you know.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support,
Alia
