A Mother of three and
grandmother of one. In 2011 her husband was laid off work and never got the
call to return. The married couple lost all insurance due to this. About 1 year later she was
having pains in her knees and her fingertips were swelling up. Kim went to a
family Doctor asking about the pains she has been having and curious of the
swelling in her fingertips. The doctor said she had arthritis, gave her medication
for the pain and sent her on her way.
Kim was told by some close
friends that going to an Acupuncturist could help the pain with the arthritis.
Kim schedule an appointment, as the acupuncturist did the first treatment
noticed Kim's horrible coughing and roughness sound coming from her chest The
acupuncturist told Kim that she didn't believe the problem was arthritis and to
have the coughing check by a doctor.
Kim made an appointment with a new doctor. They ran
tests and blood work on her. Kimberly Rindt and her family received
the news that all families pray not to hear. She
was diagnosed with a rare lung cancer through her entire left lung and lymph
nodes.
Kim has been threw multiple chemo treatments and
radiation. Finding out later after these treatments, nothing seemed to make the
massive tumor shrink.
On May 12, 2013 Mothers Day,
Kim was rushed to UMPC East Hospital due to horrifying pain through out her
whole body, the nurses and doctors ran more test on her noticing she had pneumonia
surrounding the tumor in her lung. Kim was admitted quickly due to this being a
serious matter while having cancer. She was in the hospital for a week, and
then sent home with new medication and oxygen.
Now Kimberly and her husband have medical bills coming from the hospital
which is making this situation even harder for them.
Doctors and Kim's family decided to see if the
tumor could be removed surgically. Kim and her husband got an appointment with
a surgeon at the Shadyside office. The doctors did pet scans, but they seemed
to think it was too large to remove.
Kim was notified there was
another chemo treatment they wanted to try. This treatment is
common; therefore her husband and her would have to pay straight from pocket.
With no health insurance and her not being able to work due to her condition it
would be beyond impossible for them to afford this. As of right now, Kim is not on any treatments. Kim's family and friends are trying all to support and help as much as possible. Knowing the expenses for the new treatment is extremely high, they are struggling to come up with the money. While still trying to pay off all hospital and other expenses coming to her. Kim's family and friends appreciate all donations from the bottom of their hearts. Thank You.
