Derrick's bone marrow transplant

Our good friend Derrick was recently diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a rare and serious medical condition in which the bone marrow does not produce the body's required blood cells; red, white and platelets. He's been receiving transfusions on a weekly basis since he was diagnosed February 15th while trying different treatments to promote normal bone marrow function. Unfortunately, none of the treatments were successful, leaving a bone marrow transplant as his only option.
Derrick was fortunate to find that his brother is the best possible donor for the transplant, and Derrick and his brother are preparing for the bone marrow transplant within the next couple months. The treatment will require that Derrick stay in the Mayo Clinic which is out of state for approximately 3 months, with an additional 9 months of out-patient recovery. Because of this, Derrick will need to relinquish his position with the company he has worked with for nearly 3 years, and will have no income to cover his mounting medical expenses. His brother, as the donor, will also incur medical expenses, as he is required to spend a week at the Mayo Clinic with Derrick.
Since his diagnosis in February, Derrick's immediate family members including his father, mother and stepmother, have been his primary caregivers. They have all stepped in as best they can with financial and emotional support, taking countless days off from work and making it to all of Derrick's numerous doctor's appointments and hospital stays. They will be spending additional time and money staying with their son during his transplant and recovery process.
This rare and unexpected medical condition has put an enormous financial strain on Derrick and his family. Because he is a truly good person and a close friend, we wanted to try and help him out in any way possible. To help ease the financial burden on Derrick and his family, we are asking for any size donation to help cover Derrick's medical and housing needs, and to help with the expenses for his brother as his generous donor.
Derrick is not one to share his personal information, so we're asking that anyone who visits this Go Fund Me page to respect his privacy and not share this information on social media without his approval.
