Road to Recovery

My name is Sydney and I am a senior at Millikan High School in Long Beach. I have been given an opportunity to do something helpful for society through a humanities based class that I am taking. I chose to raise money for The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery Program. The program offers free rides for cancer patients to get to their treatments. Patients can't drive themselves because they are often heavily medicated and sometimes family members or friends can't take off work or leave school to get them there. I have seen my family struggle with this issue because my uncle has been fighting with cancer on and off for about 15 years. My parents and siblings can't always get off work, I'm usually  at school when he has his appointments, and it is difficult to ask friends to take him. His appointments last an entire day including drving time so its asking someone to take off all day. I know that many other people struggle with this issue and I would really like to help. The money I raise will go straight to the Road to Recovery program and give many patients free rides to their treatments. There are also other ways to help if you are unable to or don't want to give money. The Road to Recovery program is in desperate need of more volunteers to drive patients to treatments which is another way they can offer the free rides.
