Summer is a 3rd grader who loves to be around her friends, she is a very outgoing, beautiful, brave little girl.
On
October 10, 2012, Summer was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma. A glioma is a
malignant{inoperable} tumor on the stem of the brain. A tumor in its last
stage, doctors knew Summer would never fully recover from her cancer but we
needed to buy her as much time as possible. After diagnosis she completed 6
weeks of radiation treatment at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. Summer
had several MRI scans after treatment and they all showed shrinking in the
tumor which was a sure sign that her treatment was successful. Though the
battle was far from over we continued to fight. Several months later after
watching Summer slowly show signs of pre-treatment behavior, Summer's mother made the
heart-breaking decision on May 1, 2013 to turn Summer's care over to hospice.
Their help in caring for her was greatly needed and we've appreciated it. Now
the real battle for her life begins. On May 17, 2013 (5 months after treatment)
we received word that Summer's tumor has begun to grow. With growth in her
tumor Summer has not been given a good prognosis, she's expected to live
only months.
We have set up this page to help Summer's family with expenses. Thank you all for your support and prayers for the family during this difficult journey in their lives. May God Bless each and every one of you.
