One year. 35 Trails.
Wild places are a type of medicine. Anyone who has found comfort under a forest canopy or renewal on the flank of a mountain knows this is true.
It's a medicine that everyone should have access to. Forest and the Femme
is a Vancouver-based non-profit that brings women outside, allowing them to experience the healing and empowerment that nature can provide. The barriers these women face make accessing nature both difficult and extremely important.
I love being in the wild; hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, ski touring and even sitting in the forest and breathing have been my saving grace.
For nearly 3 years, I have struggled with chronic fatigue that my doctor only recently discovered was stemming from a hormonal disorder. I have also, at various times, faced mental health challenges, and experienced the financial impacts of chronic illness. I am acutely aware of the physical, mental and financial challenges that women face, and of the healing power of nature.
This year, as I turn 35, I am so grateful for my returning health and for all the support I have received over the years, and it's time for me to focus outward. I plan to complete 35 trails during my 35th year (from May 9, 2018 to May 9 2019) to raise money in support of Forest and the Femme. This may be by foot, ski, paddle, bike or any other self-propelled means.
I am working with the organization's founder, and all funds raised will go directly to Forest and the Femme, to help get women from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside outside. How You Can Help
