310k in a day for Breast Cancer

Donation protected

Heya, I am Tassia,

On August 12th 2021, my partner in crime, Nick, will be embarking on a crazy 310 kilometre ride covering the entire length of Wales in a single day!

The crazy challenge of cycling for approximately 18 hours will start in Holyhead and end down the Mumbles in Swansea... But why 310k do you ask?

Well, 31 people die EVERYDAY in the UK from Secondary Breast Cancer (SBC) and we wanted to set a ridiculous challenge to reflect the 31 counted at death and the 0 of SBC patients counted while they are alive!

If you are feeling up to it, we would love to invite you to cycle portions of the ride with Nick, once we finalise the route we will have the times we will be passing through certain parts of Wales, don't be shy go and keep him company! If you are interested in cycling 1k or 100k with him please let us know, and we can send you updates on his progress throughout the day. I will be following in the car with refreshments. He will be starting at 2am... We hope some of our local friends will be around to greet him into the mumbles at the end (App 8-9pm)!

The route can be found here

but rest assured we will update it with live times on my blog through out the challenge on the day - https://pinkisnotmycolour.weebly.com/

We are hoping to raise £1000 - 80% Of the funds raised will go towards the After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCD) exercise and well being retreats. These retreats help those who have had, or is currently living with breast cancer, by giving them a new lease of life through sampling exercises tailored to Breast Cancer. For more information - https://www.abcdiagnosis.co.uk/lifestyle/abcd-retreat/

As well as the retreats, ABCD serves as a one stop shop of information for both primary and secondary breast cancer patients. - https://www.abcdiagnosis.co.uk/

The reminder 20% of the funds raised will go to the sister group, MetUp UK to aide with upcoming awareness campaigns. - https://metupuk.org.uk/aims-and-objectives/

Both MetUp UK and ABCD have been founded by SBC patient and activist Jo Taylor. They are volunteer led and the money raised will go to those who need it.

I am an active campaigner with MetUp UK within Wales and have been lucky enough to experience the amazing ABCD retreat.

I was shocked to hear the retreats run solely on donations, which is a bit ridiculous, considering the countless lives it serves to benefit. From connecting with fellow patients, opening invaluable dialogues, sampling exercises, 'melting' into the therapies and being propelled forward by the group, this weekend really makes you achieve everything you didn't think you could do.

Nick and I are 100% behind the values of the retreats and hope to see them all over the UK increasing the quality of life for those that have had/having to deal with Breast Cancer.

If you got this far, thanks for reading :) and hope to see you soon!
