30 in 30: Raising Autism Awareness

Donation protected
November 1st I started a 30 day challenge to raise money for Aloha Toronto, a local based not for profit organization that raises awareness of Autism in Ontario. As you probably know, Autism affects the lives of thousands of Canadians every year and is the most commonly diagnosed neurological disorders in Canada. Aloha Toronto (www.alohatoronto.com) run a yearly summer event at the Balmy Beach Club that attracts hundreds of families across Ontario and from abroad. It has a real cool Hawaiian theme and gets kids on the water having a ton of fun. I have friends who have children with severe autism – and seeing them having this much fun melts the heart I can tell you.

My challenge is 30 spin classes in the 30 days of November. It started out as a personal challenge to shift some weight and get healthy. Then I won my golf pool this summer and decided to donate to a worthy cause. After thinking about it for a night, I chose Aloha Toronto to donate my winnings based on how many ‘Likes’ I got via posting updates on Instagram. I have $1500 set aside and I hope to raise more through my network in the local community.

You can follow my cause via Instagram - @goffy74 – purely to “like” things to increase my donations and also to chuckle at my red face and tired looks…although you can do that in person in the office too. Although I will happily accept donations, do not feel obliged whatsoever. Just providing some moral support and checking out the cause itself would be gratefully received.
