Walking wild & free again

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

Although this feels extremely uncomfortable for me I am writing to ask for your support.

Those of you who have known me for longer will be aware that although I have had an uneven gait since I first arrived at the Findhorn Foundation in 2004, that my walking has become much worse over the last few years. Sadly I have lost a large amount of my mobility. This is due to a progressive neurological condition. (I prefer not to mention the name as I don’t find it helpful.)

Although the prognosis for my condition has been a progressive one  I believe strongly that as human beings we are far more capable of healing ourselves than the current medical thinking tells us. In 20 years of living with my condition I have dedicated a large portion of my resources to try to increase my understanding of how I can improve my health. It is very important to me that I remain independent and able to contribute to society.

At this point I feel I have a pretty good understanding of how to prevent any further progression. I  know what I need to do to stay well and think I have halted the progression.

I therefore feel it is worth trying to improve my walking now. Becoming more mobile again would mean so much to me. In my former life I was very active.  Mountain walking and distance running brought a lot of Joy.

I have unexpectedly come across a form of intense physical therapy that was pioneered in the USA and had seen people with conditions similar to mine make good improvements to their walking.  It involves very intense therapy over a period of three weeks. Therefore it is very expensive and not available on the NHS. There is one place in the UK where therapists are trained to work in this way and it is in Liverpool. Although there are no guarantees of the success of the therapy I would really love to try it.
However I have exhausted my own financial funds over the years as maintaining the stability of my health costs me quite a few hundred pounds a month.

Therefore I have been persuaded by some friends to ask for financial help from you my community.  I have thought long and hard about doing this and even as I write I can feel a part of myself shrinking at the prospect of putting out this request.

Nevertheless, here I am. If any of you feels able to make a contribution toward raising funds for this treatment, however small, I will be forever grateful.  I am trying to raise £7345. This includes three weeks therapy, three weeks accommodation and three weeks lost income from my self employed work as a counsellor and complementary therapist.

I have made a provisional booking to undertake this therapy in March and booked accommodation for this time in the hope that I can raise the necessary funds. I need to k now that I have the funds in place by the middle of February in order to hold the dates.
I am placing myself in this vulnerable position and asking you to support me in trying to improve the quality of my life by helping me to become more mobile again.

With love and huge gratitude.
