This movember I've decided to really knuckle down and help out someone in need. My friend Jess Scaletti has gone above and beyond to provide aid and opportunity for displaced refugees in Kenya, all on her own. What she is doing is massive, and I urge everyone who can, to help out in whatever way possible. Movember is just the start for my support to this cause with big plans for the future. "My name is Jess and in 2015 I began volunteering for a variety of underprivileged people within Kenya, Africa. I was working with abused women and children, refugees, street kids and at a camp that holds over 4,500 internally displaced persons. In 2015, after 6 months of fundraising, we managed to raise over $17,000 to help these people. The 2007 post election riots left thousands of Kenyans homeless and traumatised by what they saw and experienced. The riots turned into the killing of over 1200+ people, and 500,000+ displaced persons. I was volunteering at a camp that holds >4,500 of these internally displaced persons and have personally witnessed the struggles that these people are going through. As they lack any medical support, supplies or funding within the camp, this year, our goal is to build them a HIV/medical clinic!Initially we will be building it as a clinic for HIV positive people and from there, applying for appropriate permits to practice medicine within the clinic. Our starting budget for the building is around $24,000. It will have 6 rooms and a waiting room. Once that is underway we will begin budgeting for what is needed inside the clinic.
