Duke needs your help.

Dear Family and Friends,

This is both the most difficult and easiest ask for me to make. For over 3 years Duke has been by my side keeping me grounded and helping me be a better person. I know many of you have experienced first hand this kind of special relationship. Sadly, this past month Duke has been gravely ill. I am calling on you to help me continue that relationship with compassion and quality of life.

After several scary fainting episodes and costly exams, Duke's veterinarians have concluded that he has severe anemia most likely from an autoimmune disorder attacking his blood cells. Last week he underwent a blood transfusion. He appears to be in stable condition, but the effects of a blood transfusion may last as little as 1 week. Further recommended biomedical treatment are heavy duty immunosuppressants. These range from $75-200 a month and the side effects could greatly compromise Duke's quality of life. Under the advice of a veterinary acupuncturist, I have been administering Chinese herbs to Duke and he has perked up and is acting playful and happy again. Hopefully this can prevent the use of more serious treatment.

Here is where you can help. The cost of Duke's exams and blood transfusion alone came to $2000. I am a full time student and have had to use nearly half my financial aid check to keep Duke going. My goal is $4000 to offset the cost of his current vet bills as well as future treatment and exams. Duke and I are grateful for whatever contribution you are able to make.
