Hi, my name is Cassandra James and my sister Melanie is one in a million, she will do anything for anyone, she is a kind and beautiful soul inside and out. My sister means the absolute world to me and unfortunately in recent times she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, not only that but it's triple negative- grade 3 so it's the worst type of breast cancer to get.
The devastating news has torn our lives apart. Breast cancer has previously destroyed lives in our family. Our world came crushing down 7 years ago when our Mum passed away from this evil disease. Not only did it take our beautiful Mum from us, it also took Mum's younger sister and left Mum's twin sister struggling with this horrible disease.
So when we got the news that Melanie had been diagnosed with breast cancer our worlds fell apart. But my sister is strong and she is a fighter, she has the 2 most gorgeous, precious little girls to live for. They are aged 4 and 5 years old and mean the world to her.
Unfortunately due to the severity of her cancer Mel had to leave her job to undergo a lengthy treatment program. Her partner needs to keep working to make ends meet and the girls have to go to daycare everyday so she can concentrate on getting herself better.
Melanie needs to have chemotherapy every 2 weeks for the next 4 months. It costs around $100 each time just for the medication to keep the sickness at bay. That is only a very small fraction of her expenses. She has already had a lumpectomy and requires a double mastectomy, reconstruction and removal of her ovaries straight after recovering from chemo.
It is a massive operation and the surgery is very costly, but one which is absolutely needed to get my sister cancer free. It breaks my heart to see her struggling everyday to get better. The last thing I want is for her to be stressing about how to pay for surgery. So I am calling on all of our family, all of her friends and anyone else who could please kindly donate to help my sister get the best possible treatment to overcome this horrible disease.
She deserves the best in life and that is to be and happy and healthy and be with her partner and her girls for a very long time.
