Living in rural Maine, us students here at Katahdin High School, located in Stacyville, suffer cultural ignorance. Many of us, such as myself, have not even had the opportunity to travel south of Massachusetts. We wanted to experience something larger than ourselves, in a way that would allow us to gain more knowledge not only about other cultures, but about our own. The World Strides program is a very hands-on, in depth encounter with our country's capital that allows students to learn about the United States in a way that the classroom could never provide for us. Attending this trip would expand ourselves to new lengths, preparing us for a life that would boast many novel opportunities in a country where liberty and how we acheived it are highly valued.
