Help Demir for his first step

Every child deserves to play! However, this is a dream for many children with disabilities. This dream could come true with the right treatments. Unfortunately, these therapies are very expensive and most of the families miss this opportunity due to the financial problems. That is the reason that I create this campaign for my best friend and his nephew Demir. I would greatly appreciate your time to take a look at their story.
Background
It all began when he was born two and a half months prematurely. He was only 1.3 kg.
He suffered severe brain damage during the complications of his early delivery. When he was 1-year-old we faced the reality. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) which means that he will probably be unable to do lots of things that most children take granted like walking, dancing, running, jumping and kicking a ball.
He is currently 11 years old and he cannot;
· walk
· talk clearly
· eat everything he wants
· use his hands easily (especially the left one)
without help from people and expensive equipment.
Plus, his arms and legs have poor coordination along with poor balance control. Even sitting unaided is really tricky for him as he tends to fall over.
Core Family
It’s Demir, his mummy, uncle (my best friend) & grandma. This is the big Family. They do their best to provide Demir with freedom to do anything he dreams. Demir’s mum stopped working when he was born and dedicated all her life to him. His grandma spent most of her time with Demir to help to carry him, to practice with him or to go to his treatments together as well as other daily duties. His uncle lives in another city but he is Demir’s best friend. Every day he talks to him via FaceTime for hours and make him laugh; they play, sing, and chitchat together online. He is working hard to help Demir financially. He is also accompanying his family if they have to go abroad for Demir’s treatment or surgery.
Since 6-9 months ago Demir's father was funding Demir’s treatments but since he had the bankruptcy he cannot help that much financially. Plus, my friend is also in the middle of big financial crisis. That’s why we had to stop most of Demir’s treatments and his progress stopped.
What have they done so far?
Demir has endured many therapy sessions, appointments, hospital visits, tests, operations and medication changes to get him to where he is today. The different therapies that they’ve tried for the last 10 years are;
· Thera-Suit
· ABM
· Hippo-therapy
· Physical therapy
· Ergo-therapy
· Hydrotherapy
· Occupational therapy
· Speech therapy
· Jeremy Krauss approach
Last year he also endured a major surgery in USA called SPML with the financial help of our friends and family.
He is also practicing cognitive abilities, writing on the IPad and reading.
All of these therapies are non-insured.
Demir’s journey has been full of ups and downs however he takes it well. He is usually a happy child. I can’t believe how strong his character is but I’m sure that he struggles with many emotions and desires in his inner world.
Why are we fundraising?
There is still more progress to be made with his physical capabilities, communication, eating and cognitive abilities.
After having SPML surgery last year in USA, they have to take him back to USA for the control, new equipment and following therapies after the surgery. Then, they need to go to Germany for the Jeremy Krauss approach therapy as this is the best therapy they’ve had so far. Because, Demir had lots of progress after having SPML & Jeremy Krauss approach therapy last year.
Unfortunately, these therapies are very very expensive. In addition to the cost of therapies, there are other costs such as accommodation, air tickets, rent a car, etc. The total amount will be around 30,000 CHF for these 2 trips & therapies only.
That is the emergency part. Because after having good results following SPML & Jeremy Krauss in the Summer 2017, they have to take him back there as soon as possible before it’s too late.
In order to have the best chance of long term results they need to attend approximately twice a year for at least few years! Which will multiply the cost that I mentioned above.
When it comes to regular therapies and equipment support, he needs it lifelong which costs approximately 15,000 – 20,000 CHF a year. (Excluding therapies in Germany & USA). It may not sound like a lot, but for them these costs are quite big especially during his uncle’s and father’s financial crisis time. In fact, this year they had to stop most of the regular therapies.
I kindly ask you from the bottom of my heart to please help them for his treatments to let him be able to take his first steps independently.
