Becky's Tuition Fund

Hello all, my name is Becky and I somehow managed to get into Parsons: The New School. This is my first year in college and I'm very excited to explore everything this wonderful art school has to offer.

I should explain how I gained acceptance into Parsons. With December deadlines closing fast, many of my fellow classmates were forced to make decisions on where to apply to for college. I had a list I wasn't quite happy with, however that changed after my art teacher recommended I apply to some art schools. I never really believed my art was that amazing so I brushed off the idea for longer than I should have. Since I didn't know what I wanted to pursue in the first place I decided that it wouldn't hurt if I applied to one or two art schools. After some research and a glowing review from my teacher about Parsons, I decided to apply there. I was beyond nervous because I convinced myself that they would shut me down. My heart jumped out of my body when I got my acceptance letter. Afterwards I realized how much I secretly wanted to go to this school, no one would get nervous about a school they didn’t want to go to. In my mind this was destined to be. Parsons only grew on me more after I toured the campus and met fellow Parsons students. The environment is so welcoming and friendly, everyone there is a bit of an oddball so I fit right in.

I'm raising money for the remaining cost of my fall tuition. My need to go to this school overlooked how much my parents can actually contribute to my tuition. It's just frustrating knowing that this great opportunity has to be given up on due to my families class. I acknowledge the point that I will have to transfer to another college either next semester or next year, it depends on how much I can raise and save up. I really wished I could have spent all four years at this amazing school.

The money received will only go to my tuition. Right now I'm balancing two jobs to start off paying my tuition, so I can't really afford to throw money away. My parents are doing what they can but the tuition being $50,000 is posing to be a challenge. I would be grateful for anything at anytime.

Parsons is a dream that I'm currently living. A dream I wish to continue living. At Parsons the opportunities are endless. Fashion students can find work with top designers or find themselves at fashion week debuting their hard work. Art students can express themselves through 3D printing, sculpting with various material, making posters, prints, and stickers. Art students can even organize their own exhibits or plan to use what they learn to incorporate their ideas to solve social, economic, or environmental issues. (Parsons is based on design and sustainability). This doesn’t include all the things photography/film, and music students can do.  Although I still don't know what I want to do yet, I know that Parsons is where I belong, and the best place to help me figure out what I want to do. Not only will Parsons allow me to explore many career paths, but if I was to graduate from Parsons my parents will finally have bragging rights to say that their baby graduated from one of the top art school in the world. Making my parents proud is always my first priority.

I would be beyond grateful for all the help I get. It would allow me to pursue my dream for a little while longer. I couldn't possibly imagine doing this every year. I plan on working really hard and apply to scholarships to earn more money for college. I also wish to give something back but I yet to come up with an idea of how. I am very grateful that you guys took time out of your lives to read this. Thank you so much, and have a great day!
