Jason's smile

Donation protected
You know him for his smile, that crazy electric smile.
You know him for his laugh, that dorky guttural half-chuckle laugh.
You know him for his smarts and resourcefulness, and look to him for sound advice because he slays at absolutely everything. Because Jason is a good person.

When bad things happen to good people.

Jason was diagnosed with Stage 3B lung cancer in February 2014.  He was 36 and he never smoked. After a round of chemotherapy with radiation, surgery to remove portions of his lungs, and another round of chemo, his cancer still progressed to Stage 4.

Many would have lost hope.

After progressing to Stage 4, Jason started an approved targeted gene therapy for the type of cancer that is harboring in his lungs. He's fortunate to have this treatment available, but cancer is a mean f--ker and it develops a resistance to these types of drugs after time. Jason is now on a second targeted gene therapy, along with a suite of meds to control all the annoying ancillary symptoms that come with cancer. For Jason, annoying is an understatement. His fight is strong and hope is still within reach despite his drastic lifestyle changes.

Many would not have the energy.

Oftentimes, Jason barely has the physical energy to get out of bed, to cook, to care for himself and for Bandit (woof-woof). But Jason is strong-willed, and he manages to channel the energy to continue working as a project manager for a civil engineering firm where his responsibilities are no small task. He has become a fervent student of Qigong to help restore the energy drained from treatment, and in many ways it has saved him. But still, life moves on and the responsibilities that come with it are ever-present and continually drain Jason's energy to live a normal life.

How can you help?

Let's start here. Your contributions will help to improve Jason's quality of life by managing day-to-day tasks. They will go toward treatment and medical bills. They will help to lessen the burden of cancer on his lifestyle so he can focus his energy on healing.

I'm starting this campaign because Jason is my best friend and one of the best guys I know. I respect and care for him deeply. I invite you to support Jason as well... so we can all continue to be blinded by his crazy electric smile and all have faith that good things happen to good people.

Thank you in advance and forever grateful for your support.
