Police Fire Training Center

Tax deductible
The Police Fire Memorial Foundation of Yonkers was established in 2017 by active and retired police Officers and firefighters as a nonprofit dedicated to the brave men and women of Yonkers who have given their lives in the line of duty and to support police and fire departments in and around the City of Yonkers. In 2019, we completed a 2 year, $200,000 complete refurbishment of Yonkers’ Memorial for fallen police officers and firefighters in and from the City of Yonkers. Over the past 4 years, we have continued to support the families of our fallen members as well as commit to our community outreach. The City of Yonkers is the 4th largest city in the State of New York and has one of the largest police and fire departments outside of New York City. Both Yonkers Police and Fire Departments respond to support and assist smaller departments throughout Westchester County.

The Yonkers Police Department has 611 uniform members of service and the Yonkers Fire Department has 453 members of services. The police and fire departments serve over 200,000 residents in the City of Yonkers day in and day out. Last year, in 2020, Yonkers Police responded to over 170,000 calls for service ranging from loud noise complaints, minor car accidents, domestic disputes to homicides. In 2020, Yonkers Fire responded to over 15,000 calls including providing emergency medical care, control of hazardous materials incidents, vehicle accident extrication, technical rescue, disaster preparedness and response, fire prevention, plans review, fire safety education, and fire investigation.

Currently, the City of Yonkers does not have a dedicated training facility for either the Yonkers Police or the Yonkers Fire Departments. Both the Police Department and Fire Department must conduct all live training at the Westchester County Police and Fire Training Center in Valhalla, NY.

The Police Fire Memorial Foundation of Yonkers is looking to help the city build a joint training center for police and fire Departments. The City of Yonkers has allocated a location to build the training center. To help the fire department train, a modular prefabricated building made of shipping containers would be used. This system is custom built to meet the training needs of the Yonkers Fire Department. Members of the Yonkers fire department could train for search and rescue, confined space rescue, high angle and low angle rope rescue, roof cutting for ventilation, forcible entry, wall breaching, hose line deployment, standpipe and sprinkler system training, vehicle extrication/Jaws of Life and rescue of trapped Firefighters. The police fire memorial foundation would like to raise to $500,000. If you would be willing to donate to help build the training center we are a tax exempt organization. The City of Yonkers has also committed to using capital improvement money to help build the training center but due to the economic crisis caused by Covid-19, capital improvement funding has been severely cut. Any assistance that you or your company could provide would be greatly appreciated by both the citizens of Yonkers as well as the brave men and women of the Yonkers Police and Fire Departments.
