Street Talk

Hi, my name is Jason Scott Tilley, I have been a photographer for over 35 years.

I began my photographic career at the Coventry Citizen in 1986. My photographic work included documenting activism, football, music and much more with the Coventry Evening Telegraph and what I really enjoyed doing was photographing Live concerts in the evening.

I once took a photograph of a young man in a wheelchair being pushed away by Policemen after a football match at 'Highfield Road". The picture editor of the Coventry Evening telegraph used it on the front page.

I also had photos published for an article in the Sunday Times Magazine called 'Return of the Raj'.

As a young man, I loved photographing bands in the evening. I worked with reporters Chris (Olly) Wilson and Alastair Law. This was in a column called 'Street Talk'. Both reporters alongside me used to cover concerts, then we would go back to the office and develop the negatives and make one or two prints in the darkroom and leave them to be found early in the morning by the picture editor. They often made the front page in the first edition of the Telegraph paper.

In 1998 I travelled India and followed in my Grandad's footsteps, he was also a photographer. Then in 2002 I returned to India for over 10 years, documenting the 'Beautiful people of India'. These photographs were exhibited in the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum and are now in the Library of Birmingham.

Everything changed in 2021 when I was driven to the hospital.

My friend had noticed I had not been acting the same, there had been a change in my behaviour. I had also lost about 8 stone in weight.

Following an MRI scan I was admitted to hospital. This initial scan revealed the diagnosis of vascular dementia which was brought on by two transient ischaemic attacks, a TIA (mini strokes).

I have had to work hard at building back my photographic practice and finding my confidence again.

I would like to raise £24,999 to produce and publish a book of my photography which has documented world wide artists from the late 80's to early 90's.
