Steve Day's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Unfortunately, life has a tendency to throw obstacles at even the strongest of individuals. Tragically, our beloved friend Stephen Tyler Day was recently involved in a devastating car crash. Without delving into too much detail, emergency surgeries were necessary and the end result of his recovery and medical costs is uncertain. We respectfully ask for contributions that will be used for these medical expenses, and the cost of Stephen’s recovery, to help mitigate some of the burden from his family. The Day family is a hard working family and well respected within the community of Salem, New Hampshire. Stephen’s mother, Maryann, has helped raise not only three amazing children, but also most of Steve’s beloved friends since a young age. Her home has always been a place of love and hard work, and it is these values she passed down to Stephen. Following in her footsteps, Stephen has actively sought to bring happiness to everyone he encounters in life. Anyone who has been lucky enough to cross paths with Stephen knows all the love he brings to the world.

James Baldwin once said that “The world is before you, and you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in.” It is self-evident that Stephen has made changing the world his life’s work. A graduate of Keene State College, Steve was proclaimed “KSC’s Super Student” by the campus newspaper for his never-ending energy and community activism. The article detailed his involvement at the Harris Center for Conservation, a natural wetland sanctuary. Stephen successfully raised funds for aerial photography that played a vital role in the mapping of the center’s wetlands in order to protect the delicate creatures that resided within its borders. For Stephen, all life was precious, even at the smallest and most unassuming of levels. In college Stephen routinely spent his nights in early spring helping New Hampshire’s endangered salamander population successfully breed, going so far as setting up road blocks and carrying each specimen across roadways to safety.

It was these corner stones of Steve’s life and his never-ending dedication to changing the world around him that led him to his job at QBE North America in New York City. Stephen’s job as a senior catastrophe-modeling specialist is one of extraordinary purpose. It is his job to predict the path and effects  of some of the world’s largest natural disasters prior to them happening, and to map out disasters occuring in real time to determine what actions should be taken to preserve life and infrastructure.

Stephen’s busy schedule has never stopped him from pursuing hobbies that he loves. Most recently he has started a small woodworking business, White Mountain Woodworks, out of the basement of his apartment. Prior to this accident, Stephen would retire to his workshop after a day of helping countless people affected by natural disasters, working lovingly throughout the night. It is here that he could often be found, covered in the sawdust that he refers to as “man glitter”, hand-crafting unique and beautiful kitchen and restaurant accessories. Even in the big city, his love for nature has been tangible,  and his unending kindness has only blossomed further. It is for this reason that we ask all those who know Stephen personally, or those that have been touched by his work, to donate anything you  can in order to help us reach our goal. He is a deeply beloved friend, and anyone that has been lucky enough to cross paths with Stephen knows that everything he touches becomes beautiful. Whether he be lending his relentlessly helping hand, sitting before a grand piano playing Piano Man by Billy Joel, or sculpting nature into something even more unique than its original form, Stephen's unusual ability to change the lives around him with beauty has made him invaluable to all of us. Please join your hands with a community that loves him,  and donate to help us show our gratitude that he has been our friend.
